Mumbai: Matunga FOB closed after cracks found

A foot over-bridge (FOB) connected to the Matunga railway station on the Central Railway has been shut for public after cracks were found in it, civic officials said.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to close this FOB for people last week. "The Matunga (west) FOB connected to the railway station was shut for public use last week after cracks were found on it. BMC's bridge department will soon come out with an inspection report in this regard," a ward official said. Any decision regarding its repair or re-opening will be taken as per the report, he added.

On July 3, a portion of Gokhale road over-bridge (ROB) had collapsed over the railway tracks at Andheri station, which left five people injured, including a 36-year-old woman who died few days later. The incident had paralysed the Western Railway's (WR) local train services on that day and also hit the operations of some long-distance trains. On July 15, the WR had stopped the suburban train operations after a citizen alerted it about a "huge leakage" in Khar subway. After the call, the WR engineers had carried out an inspection of the leakage site.

An official of the bridges department of the BMC said a structural audit of all the 274 bridges across the city was underway and an action plan for their repairs, maintenance and reconstruction would be prepared soon."Our department has been carrying out the structural audit of 274 bridges since the last year. The work is in the final stages," BMC chief engineer (bridges) Shitlaprasad Kori told PTI. "Hopefully, we will soon prepare a list of bridges under various categories- those in good condition, requiring minor repairs, major repairs or requiring reconstruction," the official said.

Of these 274 bridges spread across the city, 137 are located in the western suburbs, 60 in the eastern suburbs while 77 are in the main city.

Gold hits 5-month low

Gold prices today tumbled by Rs 250 to trade at over five-month low of Rs 30,800 per 10 grams at the bullion market today amid weakening global trend and considerable fall in demand from local jewellers.

Silver followed suit and dropped by Rs 620 to Rs 39,200 per kg on poor offtake by industrial units and coin makers. Traders said sentiment was downbeat as gold prices slipped to their lowest in a year in global markets, as the dollar firmed after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's US economic outlook reinforced views that the central bank is on track to steadily hike interest rates, eroding appeal of the precious metal. Globally, gold fell 0.32 per cent to USD 1,223.30 an ounce and silver by 0.84 per cent to USD 15.41 an ounce in Singapore.

Besides, muted demand from local jewellers and retailers at domestic spot markets too weighed on prices. In the national capital, gold of 99.9 per cent and 99.5 per cent purity plunged by Rs 250 each to Rs 30,800 and Rs 30,650 per 10 grams, respectively, a level last seen on February 8, 2018.The precious metal had lost Rs 100 yesterday. Sovereign, however, remained unaltered at Rs 24,700 per piece of eight grams.
Following gold, silver ready dropped by Rs 620 to Rs 39,200 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 690 to Rs 38,290 per kg. Silver coins, on the other side, were unaltered at Rs 74,000 for buying and Rs 75,000 for selling of 100 pieces in scattered deals.

Angad Bedi who? Nora Fatehi refuses to remember ex flame after his sudden wedding with Neha Dhupia

Actor Angad Bedi and model-turned-actress Nora Fatehi were rumoured to be dating a while back. Before Neha Dhupia, Angad was said to be in a relationship with the ex Bigg Boss contestant and the two shared a great camaraderie. They had reportedly met in Goa three years ago and hit it off immediately. The duo even attended cricketer Yuvraj Singh's wedding together, and were pretty cordial on social media as well.

In an interview to Mumbai Mirror in 2016, Angad had said, "Yes, we have been getting to know each other over the past year. Nora's a lovely girl, We have been hanging out in a common group of friends for a while now since we met last year. She is doing some great work and her enthusiasm and positivity inspires me. Let us see how it goes from here."

Not only this, Angad and Nora's birthday also falls on the same day.

Last year, Nora had posted a heartfelt birthday message for Angad on her official Twitter account.

Alongside a couple of pictures of them together, she had tweeted, "Happy birthday to us @Imangadbedi. how cool we are born on the same day! That explains why you are as cool as me? That's why we are besties?"

Angad Bedi too had wished the stunning dancer by writing a post on his social media which read, "Happy birthday superstar @Norafatehi I'm honoured to share my birthday with you. I always have your back...errr I mean your shoulder."

But recently when Hindustan Times asked Nora if she congratulated Angad on his wedding, she denied even knowing him.

“Who is Angad? I don’t even know who Angad Bedi is. I never dated him, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. I have nothing to say about his wedding since I’ve never met him and I don’t care what’s happening in his married life,” Nora was quoted as saying by HT.

Angad Bedi and Neha Dhupia left everyone baffled with their wedding annoucement on Instagram. The two tied the knot on May 10 in a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony in New Delhi.

No stopping sealing, demolition of unauthorised constructions in Delhi, says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Wednesday said there would be "no stopping of sealing or demolition" of unauthorised constructions in Delhi.

The apex court's direction came after the Centre told a bench comprising Justices M B Lokur and Deepak Gupta that it had not given any instructions to authorities in Delhi to stop their sealing drive against illegal constructions.

The bench also directed that construction activity be stopped with immediate effect wherever any unauthorised construction is noticed or booked by authorities.

The apex court said adequate police protection should be given to officials when they are carrying out a sealing drive against unauthorised constructions.

Besides, the bench asked the Centre to contemplate blacklisting of builders, contractors and architects found responsible for unauthorised constructions.

Attorney General KK Venugopal told the bench that the Delhi Development Authority had launched a mobile application on July 9 where citizens can complain about illegal constructions and encroachments in the city.

So far, 431 complaints have been received in the mobile application and action taken on 138 such complaints, he said.

The bench directed that adequate publicity be given to the mobile application so citizens of Delhi are aware of it.

The top court is dealing with the issue of validity of the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, 2006 and subsequent legislations which protect unauthorised constructions from being sealed.

Pakistan General Elections: Shahbaz Sharif likely to be next PM if PML-N wins, says Abbasi

$

Shahbaz Sharif, the younger brother of jailed PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, is likely to be the next prime minister if the party wins the election, Pakistan's former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said.

He, however, said the final decision will be made with consensus in the party after the results, Dawn reported today.

Abbasi, who was elected as the prime minister following the disqualification of Sharif by the Supreme Court in July last year, also ruled out any split within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party.

"Shahbaz Sharif will be the next prime minister in the event the party wins the July 25 elections though the final decision will still be made with consensus in the party," Abbasi said yesterday.

Shahbaz, 66, who was the chief minister of Punjab province from June 2013 to June 2018, was elected as PML-N president in March after elder Sharif was disqualified as the party president following a Supreme Court verdict in the Elections Act 2017 case.

Replying to a question on the possibility of a coalition with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Abbasi said that an alliance with them could not even last a month in 2008.

Abbasi, also a PML-N national assembly candidate, questioned the cases against Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and her husband Capt (retd.) Muhammad Safdar and said the trial against them was conducted in an unprecedented and discriminatory manner.

Sharif, 68, and his daughter Maryam, 44, were arrested in Lahore on July 13 on their arrival from London after an accountability court found them guilty over his family's ownership of four luxury flats in London. They were later shifted to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Both Sharif and Maryam have been sentenced by an accountability court to 10 and 7 years in prison respectively for corruption charges linked to the Panama Papers case. Sharif has also been barred from holding any public office for life.

Thai cave boys leave hospital for first public appearance since stunning rescue

$

The 12 boys and their soccer coach rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand left a hospital on Wednesday to make their first public appearance at a nationally-broadcast news conference in the northern province of Chiang Rai.

Vans painted in silver and pink drove the boys, aged 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach, out of the hospital where they have stayed since last week's international effort to extricate them from a flooded cave complex where they had been trapped.

"The boys have left. The vans are leaving," said a Reuters witness, as the boys, wearing T-shirts emblazoned with a red graphic of a wild boar with backpacks slung over their shoulders, ran a gauntlet of media cameras to get into the vans.

The government has allotted a 45-minute slot for the conference on its "Thailand Moves Forward" programme, which will be televised live on dozens of channels around 6 p.m. (1100 GMT)

The boys, their coach and some rescuers will be asked a series of questions submitted by journalists in advance, officials said.

"We don't know what wounds the kids are carrying in their hearts," said justice ministry official Tawatchai Thaikaew, who asked for the boys' privacy to be respected after the discharge, for fear that media attention could affect their mental health.

"The media know the children are in a difficult situation, they have overcome peril and if you ask risky questions then it could break the law," he told reporters.

The group had planned to explore the Tham Luang cave complex for about an hour after soccer practice on June 23. But a rainy season downpour flooded the tunnels, trapping them.

Two British divers found them on July 2, squatting on a mound in a chamber several kilometres inside the complex. All were brought to safety during the three-day rescue, organised by Thai navy SEALs and a global team of cave-diving experts.

Some Thai television personalities joked that the boys' appearance would boost ratings for an otherwise dull show that usually features discussions of the military government's performance.

"This is the story all Thais want to hear. Don't switch it off, don't put it on mute," joked a presenter of Voice TV, a broadcaster that is often critical of the military government.

"It should help the Thailand Moves Forward show's ratings shoot through the roof."

The rescue effort drew global media attention and hundreds of journalists, many of whom left after it wrapped up, but excitement picked up again in the usually sleepy town of Chiang Rai ahead of the boys' much-anticipated appearance.

"The reporters are back. I had to pick up a Japanese reporter from the airport at 2 a.m.," said tour operator Manop Netsuwan.

A cartoon of the group with its rescuers, captioned, "Our Heroes", was displayed on a welcome screen at the airport.

"I pass the hospital where the children are staying every day and I say a prayer to thank Lord Buddha for their return," said Duang, a noodle vendor, who asked to be identified only by her first name.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn has allowed a party to be held in the Royal Plaza, a public square in Bangkok's old town, to thank the Thai and foreign participants in the rescue, the government said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told reporters the celebration would feature a banquet and entertainment, but gave no further details.

US executes Indian-origin man's killer despite clemency appeal by victim's son

$

0

A 34-year-old man convicted of killing an Indian-origin businessman in 2004 has been executed in the US state of Texas despite a clemency appeal by the victim's son.

Christopher Young, who was a member of a gang, had shot at Hasmukh 'Hash' Patel while attempting robbery at his mini-mart and dry cleaner store in San Antonio, Texas 14 years ago.

Patel, 50, had died of the bullet injury, local media reported.

Young, who was 21 at the time of the incident, was convicted and awarded death sentence by a local court in February 2006.

He was executed yesterday evening, days after his clemency appeal was unanimously rejected by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Last month, Young's aunt and lawyers launched a campaign to seek clemency for him. Patel's son Mitesh, 36, had also supported the campaign, Texas Tribune reported.

"He (Young) has educated himself, become grounded in his religion, actively parents his daughters, and mentors troubled young people beyond the prison walls," said his lawyers, Jeff Newberry and David Dow, in a joint statement last month upon filing his clemency petition to the parole board.

Mitesh had urged the parole board that the death sentence of his father's killer be reduced to a prison term or temporarily halted.

He attended a small rally yesterday and said Young's execution would not "take us toward any positive outcome", according to the report.

He said that over time, he was able to forgive Young for killing his father. Young's compassion for his daughters was a main reason he spoke out against the execution, Mitesh added.

Mitesh lost his father in his early 20s, and Young was only 8 when his father was murdered as well, according to the clemency petition.

Mitesh has said he does not want Young's daughters to grow up without a father, too, and mentioned Young's work on death row trying to help other people.

"He actually has a desire to break the chain of other people possibly in his shoes from continuing down that path," Mitesh was quoted as saying in the report.

Young's case garnered widespread attention, in part due to a social media campaign and his video interviews on death row. An online petition started by the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty supporting Young's clemency petition had garnered more than 23,000 signatures as of early last afternoon.

"I want to make sure the Patel family knows I love them like they love me," Young said in his final statement, likely referring to Patel's son who opposed the execution.

"Make sure the kids in the world know I'm being executed and those kids I've been mentoring keep this fight going. I'm good, warden," he was quoted in the report.

Nab chain snatchers, earn Rs 50,0000: AIADMK lawmaker offers cash reward

An MLA of the ruling AIADMK has announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 to those who apprehend chain snatchers in his constituency inviting strong criticism from social activists.

The MLA, representing Sulur constituency in Coimbatore district, R Kanagaraj said he announced the reward in the wake of chain snatching incidents in his Assembly segment.

Meanwhile, National General Secretary, PUCL V Suresh said "it is an irresponsible statement which will only aid and encourage vigilantism." Another activist said innocent migrant labourers may be targeted and would lead to people taking law into their own hands.

Reacting to the criticism, Kanagaraj said the announcement has got absolutely nothing to do with taking law into one's own hands.

"I announced the reward only to encourage young men to apprehend chain snatchers and hand them over to police for appropriate legal action," the MLA told PTI.

His initiative was only to "help and support the police personnel," who are handling several tasks he said.

"Chain snatching happens in day light and some help can be really useful in nabbing them."

Kanagaraj said he also announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for those who could provide information about the culprits who had set on fire some uniforms and shoes in a school in his constituency.

"The school has seen a similar incident of blaze before.

I request people only to provide information about suspects to help police and I will provide a reward of Rs 5,000," he said adding the identity of informants would be a secret.

Attention ladies! Early dinner may lower risk of breast cancer, says study

$

People who have their dinner before 9 pm or at least two hours before going to sleep may have a lower risk of developing breast and prostate cancer, a study claims.

The research, published in the International Journal of Cancer, assessed whether meal timing could be associated with risk of breast and prostate cancer, two of the most common cancers worldwide.

Breast and prostate cancers are also among those most strongly associated with night-shift work, circadian disruption and alteration of biological rhythms.

Researchers at Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) in Spain assessed each participant's lifestyle and chronotype - an individual attribute correlating with preference for morning or evening activity.

The study included data from 621 cases of prostate cancer and 1,205 cases of breast cancer, as well as 872 male and 1,321 female controls selected randomly from primary health centres.

The participants, who represented various parts of Spain, were interviewed about their meal timing, sleep habits and chronotype and completed a questionnaire on their eating habits and adherence to cancer prevention recommendations.

"Our study concludes that adherence to diurnal eating patterns is associated with a lower risk of cancer," said ISGlobal researcher Manolis Kogevinas, lead author of the study.

The findings "highlight the importance of assessing circadian rhythms in studies on diet and cancer," he added.

If the findings are confirmed, Kogevinas noted, "they will have implications for cancer prevention recommendations, which currently do not take meal timing into account." "The impact could be especially important in cultures such as those of southern Europe, where people have supper late," he added.

Pakistan cleric on US terror list extends support to Imran Khan's party

A Pakistani cleric, who is placed by the US on a terror watch list, has extended his support to Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in the upcoming general elections scheduled for July 25, a media report said today.

The cleric, Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil was placed by the US government on Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) list on September 30, 2014, for his alleged role in Harkatul Mujahideen (HuM) militant organisation, which he reportedly founded in the past, the Express Tribune reported.

He later founded and is still heading Ansarul Ummah, which he calims is a political party. Both HuM and Ansarul Ummah are on the SDGT list.

Khalil's Ansarul Ummah also took part in the last local government elections.

However, many were surprised when senior party leader Asad Umar took to social media to announce that Khalil along with hundreds of other Ulema (clerics) had joined the PTI and announced their support to him in the upcoming elections, the daily reported.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman Kahlil has joined the PTI along with hundreds of his followers and Ulema, Umar wrote in a Facebook post with an album showing Umar being welcomed by Khalil and others and the two addressing the ceremony.

When contacted, Khalil confirmed that he and other Ulema had hosted Umar on Sunday and decided to support him in the elections.

However, he clarified that he had not joined the PTI. We are not joining the PTI. We just announced to support Asad Umar in NA-54, he was quoted as saying by the daily.

When contacted, Umar said he was unaware whether Khalil was on the US-designated list of terrorists.

I have known him for three years. He has condemned terrorist activities by the TTP and made efforts for unity and harmony between various religious groups and sects. This is what I like about him, he said.

Paris police urge women to report World Cup sexual assaults

Paris's police chief urged women on Wednesday to report any cases of sexual assault during the celebrations of France's World Cup win, after dozens of accounts by victims were posted on social media in recent days.

"These cases must be brought to our attention so that investigations can be carried out," Michel Delpuech said on Europe 1 radio.

"Our services will obviously pursue any aggressors without fail if they are identified," he said.

Reports of forced kisses and groping began emerging after France won the final against Croatia on Sunday night, as hundreds of thousands of fans poured into the streets of Paris and other cities.

Others recounted sexual assaults during the team's victory parade down the Champs Elysees avenue on Monday, eventually using the hashtag #MeTooFoot, a nod to the Me Too movement that sprang up in the wake of rape and assault claims against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

"For me it was during the third goal... when I felt a hand slide up under my skirt," a Twitter user named Isa posted Monday.

Other victims posted that they had not filed charges, saying they did not believe the police would pursue their cases since their aggressors quickly fled into the crowd.

France's Equality Minister Marlene Schiappa also urged victims to come forward on Tuesday, saying on Twitter that "A man forcibly kisses a woman during the World Cup parties, that's sexual assault that is punished by the law."

'Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation' review: Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez's animation outing is worth a watch

Movie:Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation

Cast: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Jim Gaffigan, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Jonas, Chrissy Teigen, Mel Brooks, Chirs Parnell

Director: Genndy Tartakovsky

Genre: Animation comedy

Duration: 1 hour 37 minutes

Story:

Count Dracula (Adam Sandler) is running his hotel business without any break or glitch. He has help from his daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), her husband Johnny (Andy Samberg), and their son Dennis. Mavis realises that it's been a long time since they had a vacation as a family. So she plans a monster cruise holiday with her family and the friends that we have become familiar with in the past two movies.

These monsters intend to enjoy their time away from their scaring duties. But Dracula falls in love with the captain of the ship, Ericka (Kathryn Hahn). Ericka's ancestors are the Van Helsings, who have always been on the mission to wipe out these monsters from the face of the Earth. Ericka wants to live up to that legacy. Dracula, unaware of Ericka's family history, "zings" with her and tries to balance the jitters of the new relationship with his duties towards the family and friends. This game of cat and mouse and defeating the 'real' monsters is how the story ends.

Review:

Hotel Transylvania franchise has been a strong advocate of the one-true-love theory. In their language, you only zing once. The third part of the franchise is breaking away from it and gives the message of hope that there will be others you can 'zing' with. It's a time-killer animation comedy filled with cuddly, cartoony versions of all the monsters that scared the hell out of viewers in the classic black and white movies. That's not all. This time the folklore and legends of contemporary times like the Bermuda Triangle are mixed with the old tale of Atlantis.

The animation of these characters draws from cliched definition and twists it to bring out laughs. Did you know that Blob can have a baby and then make a pet for that baby out of his own body? Or did you ever imagine what Frankenstein's monster will look like with crab claws? Or did you know vampires run away from garlic not because they are afraid of dying but because it makes them toot?

The film a standard fare when it comes to animation. We are familiar with all the characters and Ericka, the new addition, is the feminine image of Dracula. A Countess for the Count.

When it comes to voicework, Adam Sandler makes the seamless transitions from the squeaky, high-pitched, humorous 'Transylvanian' accent to the monstrous thunder of the Dracula. Keegan-Michael Keys' singing Mummy is another charmer given you have singers like Selena Gomez, Joe Jonas, and Adam Samberg on the roster. The rest of the voice cast is like in any other Adam Sandler comedy. They tick the boxes and we take it.

It's a fun movie for kids that also has strength in brilliantly curated background music. From Bruno Mars' '24K Gold' to all-time classic 'Macarena,' the songs never fail to elevate the scenes. It's a love story wrapped in a run-of-the-mill mould. Worth your time.

Verdict:

A kiddie picture that has the potential of becoming your occasional Sunday night watch.

'Fast and Furious' star Tyrese Gibson admits public feud with Dwayne Johnson was 'not professional'

American actor Tyrese Gibson says it was "not professional" on his part to publicly talk about his feud with Dwayne Johnson.

The feud between the Fast and Furious co-stars started when Johnson was called out by Gibson on Instagram for being the reason behind the postponement of upcoming installment of the franchise.

Gibson had blamed Johnson for the delay of the next movie, which was pushed from 2019 to 2020.

In an interview with The Red Pill podcast, Gibson, 39, said that he had not spoken to Johnson since then, but the two "will have a conversation".

"I found myself being the messenger on behalf of various people associated to the franchise, but stupid me was the only one who went public about those feelings, which is my own fault. It's not professional, it's not cool," the actor said.

The feud was addressed by Johnson, 46, recently when he appeared on Watch What Happens Live, a late night American talk show, where a caller asked him if he had spoken to Gibson since the call out.

"Great question, and the answer is no, we haven't talked at all. That whole thing with Tyrese was pretty disappointing because I've been friends with Tyrese for a very long time," Johnson had said.

"To me, there's no need to have a conversation," he added.

After controversy over transgender role, Scarlett Johansson's 'Rub & Tug' may get canned

$

The plans to make Rub & Tug appear bleak after Scarlett Johansson's recent withdrawal from the film because of objections to her playing a trans man, reports suggest.

According to The Wrap, a source with knowledge of the project, it is unclear if the movie will actually go into production.

The insider indicated the current situation does not look good for the movie, which still has director Rupert Sanders attached.

Johansson was also attached to the film as a producer through These Pictures. Currently, it is unclear whether Johansson and These Pictures will stay on to back the project.

Joel Silver's Silver Pictures is also listed as a production company on the film, but Silver did not respond to requests for comment.

Johansson, 33, dropped out of the role following a backlash from the LGBT community.

The actor exited the drama a little more than a week after her casting sparked backlash amid trans groups and activists.

"In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I've learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realise it was insensitive.

"I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues. According to GLAAD, LGBTQ+ characters dropped 40% in 2017 from the previous year, with no representation of trans characters in any major studio release," Johansson told Out Magazine in a statement.

In response to the controversy, the actor's representatives had earlier told Bustle, "Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman's reps for comment." Johansson's statement alludes to performances by - Tambor, Leto and Huffman, fellow cisgender actors who have played transgender characters on screen.

Rub and Tug focused on Dante Tex Gill, a crime kingpin who used his massage parlour as a front for prostitution in the '70s and '80s. Gill lived his life as a trans man, which led many on social media to wonder why a trans actor was not tapped for the role.

Previously, Johansson faced criticism in response to her casting as a Japanese human-cyborg in Ghost in the Shell also directed Sanders, which many fans perceived as whitewashing.

Katy Perry experienced 'situational depression' after mediocre run of her album 'Witness'

Katy Perry has revealed she suffered from "bouts of situational depression" after her fifth studio album Witness received mixed response by the public last year.

Despite topping US charts and being number six on the UK charts, Witness produced no number one hits, unlike her third LP Teenage Dream which had six number ones.

"I had bouts of situational depression. My heart was broken last year because, unknowingly, I put so much validity in the reaction of the public, and the public didn't react in the way I had expected to," Perry told Vogue Australia.

The singer, who has been vocal about her mental health struggles, said she decided to go to the Hoffman Institute, a week-long healing retreat in California, seeking a "new foundation".

"For years, my friends would go and come back completely rejuvenated, and I wanted to go, too. I was ready to let go of anything that was holding me back from being my ultimate self. Music is my first love and I think it was the universe saying, 'OK, you speak about self-love and authenticity, but we are going to put you through another test and take away any kind of validating 'blankie.' Then we'll see how much you truly love yourself," Perry said.

"That brokenness, plus me opening up to a greater, higher power and reconnecting with divinity, gave me a wholeness I never had. It gave me a new foundation. It's not just a material foundation. It's a soul foundation," she added.
