Piping hot pakoras, some soothing toddies, stories and memories associated with rains. Recipe for a perfect evening? Well, yes, and that’s what The Bombay Canteen at Lower Parel wants you to experience this Sunday, July 29. Kommune’s storytellers will be parking themselves at the eatery to tell you tales of their encounters with the rains. Stories from Under The Umbrella will see four storytellers – Kubra Sait, Hussain Haidry and Rakesh Tiwari – who will engage the audience with their rainy tales. Where’s the music, you ask? Well, musician Aarifah Rebello will take care of that aspect with her melodies as she opens and closes for this engaging session.
It’s the first time that The Bombay Canteen is associating with Kommune. Co-founder Sameer Seth tells us that they have been doing something special during the monsoons, ever since they opened the eatery. “Monsoons are associated with eating pakoras, drinking hot drinks and reading books. So we decided to have toddies, that we are doing with Hennessey and instead of the books, bring some of the best storytellers through Kommune. The idea is to have a fun, relaxed evening, where everyone is eating, drinking and enjoying good stories along the way,” he says.
Poet, lyricist and storyteller Hussain Haidry loves engaging sessions like these, where he gets to recite his creations. “As a performer, it’s a challenge to read out new material. Here, the theme is stories about the rains, and I have a fresh poem which I have written about the season. Then, there will be some new poems on the rains as well,” he tells us.
Stories from Under The Umbrella will be held at 5 pm on Sunday, July 29 at The Bombay Canteen, Lower Parel. The ticket is inclusive of free-flowing pakoras, one toddy of your choice and an evening of stories, memories and laughter.
