Congress president Rahul Gandhi was trolled on social media by BJP supporters for hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha, claiming that it was adverse to decorum of parliament. To defend Gandhi’s act, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot has reminded Modi of his five-year-old hug and preached him not to take opposition as rivals.
It was a sunny day on December 13 when oath ceremony of chief minister Vasundhara Raje was being held at Janpath in the presence of then Gujarat CM Modi, home minister Rajnath Singh, LK Adwani. Gehlot, who lost the election badly and his party was reduced to 21 seats only, walked on to the stage which surprised many.
Modi, while greeting Gehlot hugged him tightly while hands of the latter remained stiff, not ready to accept it. This photo was widely circulated on social media, with many calling Modi a man with big heart who even express affection towards the rival leaders. Gehlot never shared what his thoughts were at that moment, but today he came out with the anecdote to defend Rahul.
“With embracing each other the hearts meet, the old differences get erased out. When I attended Raje’s oath ceremony, Modi hugged me too. I was surprised for a moment but I never called it an awkward hug. It would be wrong to call it awkward. Similarly, how could it be called an awkward hug when Congress president hugged Modi,” he said.
