Taking pollution-free transportation beyond the metro tracks, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) will install charging facility for E-rickshaws at several stations. The JMRC, on Saturday, entered a memorandum of understanding with Rajasthan Electronics and Instrumentation Limited (REIL). As part of the understanding, 15 chargers will be installed in the parking lot of Mansarover, New Atish Market, Civil Lines and Chandpole metro stations.
“Each charger will be able to charge 3 E-rickshaw simultaneously. The modular chargers developed by REIL are compact, safe and IT-enabled,” JMRC chairman, Pawan Kumar Goyal briefed on the instrument details.
According to Metro officials, the chargers have remote logging and monitoring capacities. These shall provide 24 hours charging facility for the E-rickshaws at specified fees and the electric consumption could be monitored through mobile and web application.
JMRC has won state-level energy conservation awards for consecutive years for measures taken to save energy in operations of the metro. The E-rickshaws have emerged as a pollution free option to provide first and last mile connectivity to the commuters. At many metro stations, E-rickshaws have been providing the feeder service helping the metro commuters to reach near their destination. Installation of the charging facility will motivate the E-rickshaws to head towards the metro stations.
