The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) on Thursday issued a notice to the police, the Director of Education (DoE) and the South civic body seeking a report in connection with the death of a class III student at a government school in Basti Hazrat Nizamuddin. The boy had gone missing after he was turned away by his class teacher because he was not wearing his uniform and later his body was recovered from a boali in the locality on July 9.
According to the commission, when the boy failed to reach home in the afternoon, his mother, a domestic help, started searching for him in the locality. " She was told by the school administration that the child did not report to school that day. Thereafter, she went about searching in the whole locality. After some time she found his school bag, then at a distance, she found his clothes and finally she traced his body in the basti's baoli," the DMC said in a statement.
Later, the body was transferred to the trauma centre at AIIMS where the post-mortem report confirmed the child had died due to drowning. "The police surrendered the body to the mother but did not register an FIR," the commission said.
"The next day the mother went to the school again and a classmate of her son told her the entire incident. However, the school authorities claimed that their CCTV was not working on that day but the CCTV of a nearby building showed the child leaving the school at 8 am that morning. The mother went to the Nizamuddin police station but her complaint was not registered," it said.
The commission has now issued notices to all the stakeholders seeking a report in the case.
