Rajasthan: Roadways buses remain off road for second day

The buses remained off the road for the second day on Thursday due to the strike called by the roadways employees.

The roadways strike will continue after Thursday too. In a late night development, ML Yadav, leader of the United Front of the Roadways Employees Unions informed that after the talks with the management of roadways failed on Thursday, a decision has been taken to extend the strike. 

“We have decided to extend the strike, further decision will be taken later, ” said Yadav while speaking to DNA.

Meanwhile, thousands of commuters faced inconvenience and alleged harassment by the private bus operators who charged excess fares, apart from the financial loss suffered by the roadways. By an estimate, Roadways is suffering loss of Rs 5,000 crore per day making it Rs 10,000 crores in two days.

In fact, the revenue roadways had earned during two-day rush at the time of constable recruitment examination has been negated by the strike. The strike has boosted the business of the private bus operators and Lok parivahan buses as commuters have been left with no choice but to travel on them.

The employees’ leaders remained firm on their 13-point agenda despite talks with the management of roadways on Thursday afternoon. 

Earlier during the day, roadways management informed the media about the various steps government has taken to support Rajasthan roadways and its employees.

It was also informed that it was during the tenure of the present government the roadways got its maximum support since its inception in 1964.

A day earlier on Wednesday, Rajhans Upadhyaya, chairman and managing director of Rajasthan roadways, issued the order for revision of dearness allowance of the roadways employees, the rate of DA is now between 139% and 142%.

Appeal Issued

Roadways also issued an appeal to the striking employees to return to work. The ongoing strike by truckers has created more problems as it has affected the supply of raw material and other goods.
