Jayadev Galla: 5 points to know about the TDP MP who opened no-confidence debate in Lok Sabha

As Lok Sabha witnessed its most intense showdown on Friday, the man to lead the TDP sponsored no-confidence motion against the Modi government was Jayadev Galla.

Galla, the Guntur MP, was chosen by Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu to open the debate in Lok Sabha. As India tunes in to closely watch the debate, here are the points to know about the TDP MP who opened the no-confidence debate in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

1. Galla, an industrialist cum politician, entered into the political arena when he contested for the 16th Lok Sabha from Andhra Pradesh's Guntur constituency and won by a wide margin. His mother, Aruna Kumari Galla, a former MLA from Chandragiri constituency has served as the Minister for Geology and Mines in the Andhra Pradesh government.

2. The 52-year-old Guntur MP is also one of the wealthiest politicians who is the managing director of Amara Raja Group that was set was by his NRI father. After entering into the family business, he played a major role in helping his company become the second popular brand in India. His company now makes a  turnover of Rs 6,000 crore. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Balla declared his assets Rs 683 crores.

3. This is not the first time Galla has led a blistering attack against the NDA government. Earlier in February in the Union Budget 2018, the TDP MP took a dig at the Centre saying that the box office collections of 'Baahubali' were more than the funds provided by the BJP government to Andhra Pradesh. He has played a major role for urging the Centre to accord Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

4. Galla is married to Padmavathi who is the daughter of Telugu film star Krishna and his brother-in-law is the popular south indian star Mahesh Babu.

5. Following his father Ramachandra Naidu's footsteps, who lived and worked in United States for more than two decades, Balla also moved there. He studied politics and economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
