70-year-old falls to death from a highrise in Powai

A 70-year-old woman died after falling from 17th floor of Maple Leaf building at Raheja Vihar, Chandivali in Powai on Saturday morning. Police said that it is still not clear if it was a case of accidental death or suicide because the woman was suffering from high blood pressure.

The deceased, identified as Laxmi Dukhiya Rout, was living with her husband, son, and her daughter-in-law in flat number 1728 in the building. Her son, Krishnachad (42) is a banker, while her husband is a retired person.

Saturday being the first day of Jaganath Rath Yatra, the family had planned to go to a temple.

The Powai police said that around 9 am, the deceased took bath and dressed up. However, at 10 am her husband noticed she was not at home. It was their maid who informed that Laxmi is lying unconscious in the duct of the 7th floor. She was rushed to Rajawadi hospital. However, she was declared dead before admission. She had succumbed to multiple head injuries.

According to police, initially, it seemed that deceased might have jumped or fallen from the 17th floor and the body got stuck in the parapet of the 7th floor.

A family member said that Laxmi had high blood pressure, she was also suffering from knee pain. Meanwhile, Powai police said that they have registered a case of accidental death report and are also probing suicide angle considering that she was suffering from high blood pressure.
